Friday 31st August
We were up bright and early today with a plan, a very carefully crafted plan that hinged around Ella falling asleep at precisely 12.55pm and for once it worked and she fell asleep at exactly that time and it ran like a dream.
I'd read the guide books and I knew what I wanted to do in Kakadu but then I thought about the fact we were towing a two year old and felt pretty downhearted that we'd be limited to visitors centres and places with boardwalks and pushchair access, especially after the three hour car journey from Darwin and the knowledge that we're in a place most people won't ever get chance to visit.
So no, we decided we were doing Kakadu, and we started here at Nourlangie Rock, where Ella climbed to the top with a bit of a help from Dad and we admired the view over the Arnhem escarpment.
And yes, we're wearing fly nets over our hats but it was either that or a hat with swinging corks and there's no way on earth I'm walking around Crocodile Dundee country with "G'day Mate" slapped across my head.
