Florence Falls

From the termite mounds we continued along the track to Florence Falls, where you can take a dip in the croc-free plunge pool if you can stomach the 135 steps down to the water in the searing heat (or rather, the thought of the return journey).

Left to my own devices I'd probably have chickened out. Yes I'm a tour leader, but it's a nice sedentary tour of tea-rooms rather than something of Crocodile Dundee proportions. Darren, on the other hand, has his Duke of Edinburgh gold award and never one to be afraid of a bit of a climb he set off down the escarpment with Ella and our swimming gear so I had little choice but to follow.

Anyway, I was glad I did because the plunge pool was gorgeous and the dip in the water was a relief after the heat. We'd brought the snorkel, which delighted Darren, but after I'd spotted a few big fish I was out of the pool as quickly as I could heave my arse up the slipperly tree roots leading to the bank. Like I said, I'm more of a scones and jam girl at heart.
