Batman and the little camera returned unscathed and even more miraculously, the politician got an ICU bed, which is funny because there was no ICU bed available last night.
East Timor is an hour away from Darwin by plane and it turns out to be a shell of it's former self. It used to be a Portugese colony until the Indonesians invaded a few years ago. The Aussies got involved to help the people defend themselves against attack and the Indonesians eventually retreated, but in doing so they burnt out loads of the buildings and generally buggered up the infrastructure so these days it's like a third world country.
The nice-looking building is the government building; they're rebuilding from the top down as you can see because the general population are living in corrugated iron shelters waiting for things to get better.
Anyway, the five hour job turned into a ten hour job because neither the politican nor his wife were in possesion of an Australian visa. It all turned out okay in the end and we were back at the sailing club for cold drinks by half seven.
