Izzy Queen of the Desert

At Nourlangie and Anbangbang we met Glen and his family of three boys. Glen's a sheep shearer from north eastern Victoria and he and his wife have taken the kids out of school for three months to go walkabout up the east coast and across Queensland towards Kakadu.

They bought the bus semi-converted and installed a full bathroom at the back. One of the boys sleeps on a mattress rolled out across the front seats then there's a double bed and a set of bunks. They've got everything here from a Ute hooked on the back to five bikes, a boat, fishing gear, patio table and chairs and of course, the BBQ.

Ella climbed inside and got on with the task of crayoning while we gently persuaded her she wasn't accompanying Glen and his family in the bus, she was coming back with us in the Chopperdoc car. She thinks she's getting a raw deal. I think these kids have it made.
