Queenslanders

These are the Queenslander-style houses I was telling you about. They're not the absolute most typical Queenslanders I've ever seen, they're just two that we managed to snap as we were driving away from Brisbane (and being chased by a dustcart, so think yourself lucky I took any photos at all).

They build them from wood and put corrugated iron rooves on top. The living section is always elevated from the ground so the air can circulate underneath, which is where they often park their cars.

And they always have some kind of verrandah around the edge with a picket-fence type thing. I love them and I wouldn't mind living in one for two reasons, firstly, well, if you are going to go for the Aussie lifestyle then you might as well go the whole hog and have a house that looks like this and a rocking chair on the verrandah, and secondly, I think you probably get fewer creepy-crawlies if you're living off the ground.

The latter is probably the most important.
