In my attempts at budgeting, I am shopping around to find "value for money".
Today I bought some hand-made pesto. It's delicious stuff packed full of basil, crumbs of parmesan and chopped pine nuts and you can get it in most of the shops.
The stuff in the Randwick deli was $6.20 for 200 grams. In the fruit shop it was $4.60 for 150 grams. I don't know how to do the maths without a calculator. I couldn't even make a guess so I just bought the biggest tub.
This conundrum reminds me of GCSE maths. When Darren heard the story, he shook his head. I'm not sure what this means, but he spread it pretty thick onto his sandwich, so I'm glad I bought the bigger one.
Is GCSE maths pointless in a world of slack housewifery?

You were in top set maths too, missus. GCSE maths was rather crap.
Sainsburys and Tesco's very helpfully put the price per 100g, otherwise I'd be stuffed, or seriously ripped off.
(I know I spend a lot of time checking structural engineering calculations, but you can use a calculator for that without looking like a complete wally in a shop can't you?)
Your memory fails you. I started out in top set but was moved down when they discovered I was a mathmatical moron.
I then spent two years being taught by a man who applied his understanding of probability in the betting shop rather than the classroom. By default, this condemned me to science lessons with the man who's right hand was permanently down the back of his trousers. I now have no idea how to split the atom, though perhaps thats not a bad thing.
You were good at science and maths. You should have married Leigh Lawson and become a doctor, just as you always threatened
I don't remember you being anything less than superbrainy, you've ruined my illusion. It must be neuron loss due to pregnancy.
Nah, LL's looking a bit haggard these days, Twiggy is still stunningly gorgeous, she's welcome to him *sniff*. As for being a doctor, all they do is listen to people whinge about their woes which isn't all that different to what I do. At least they can prescribe pills to shut them up.
I remember that science teacher well, most of the teachers there had quirks/sociopathic tendencies but he was particularly 'special'. Can't remember the maths teacher you had, did I mention about the pregnancy neuron loss?
I know all about pregnancy related neurone loss. What's left of your brain is delivered with the placenta.
I was only good at French and English. I was spectacularly bad at PE.
