I've been studying the cakes, chocolates, biscuits and sweets in the supermarkets here in Sydney. You do that when you're trying to be healthy. I have decided, for the greater good, that I will test out some Aussie institutions to see what all the fuss is about.
If you are following this blog, you are surely getting the richest insight into Australian culture since The Thorn Birds. I'll bet Judith Chalmers never ate a lamington in her life.
So far, I've tested the Lamington cake, the Peanut Slab and the legendary Arnott's Tim Tam biscuit. The latter is worth it's reputation - a posh version of the Penguin biscuit meets Club biscuit meets Yoyo. Worth going back for seconds (and thirds).
The Lamington is over-rated. Sponge cake covered in coconut. What's the point?
The Peanut Slab is so-so. The chocolate is rubbish but it is indeed a slab of the stuff and the peanuts are plentiful.
Next Time: The Violet Crumble bar.
