Places We Won't Be Visiting Again - Part II

The Carrington Hotel in Katoomba, which is at the hub of the blue mountains region. It's cavernous inside and reminded us in no small part of the hotel in the Jack Nicholson film "The Shining".

New South Wales was having problems with bush fires, which meant the Aussies were reluctant to leave their houses and go walkabout. The result was that this grand hotel, complete with silver-service waitressing, old-fashioned cocktail bar and 1930's roll-top baths, was almost completely deserted. Except for us.

We had a three-course dinner in this grand dining room, completely alone and dressed up in our best togs. We didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
