After brekkie, and after a quick stroll under the approach span to the harbour bridge at Dawes Point, we drove up through the northern beaches to the Barrenjoey penninsula.
The northern beaches is a term used to describe a whole string of suburbs backing onto the Pacific north of Manly. It's where loads of poms head when they emigrate to Sydney because it's close to the beach and it's cheaper than buying somewhere in the city like the so-called inner west or the eastern suburbs.
The northernmost beach before the entrance to Broken Bay is Palm Beach. If you hang around long enough you might get a role as an extra on "Home and Away" because this is where it's filmed, up towards the sand dunes at the northern end of the top picture.
