Click Go the Shears

And finally, out came Farmer Matt and showed us how to shear a sheep, armed with a fabulous CD of outback Australian favorites like "click go the shears" - very atmospheric.

Sheep shearing season starts in the new year when the shearers cut the wool up in the far north of Queensland (you know, where you can buy ripe chocolate pudding fruits). They make their way down the east coast, arriving in Victoria round about Christmas time and the going rate is about $2.20 per sheep.

The world record for shearing a sheep is 36 seconds. Farmer Matt took considerably longer, but he did give us some fresh wool to take home and Ella hasn't stopped talking about the sheep that got a haircut ever since.
