Bat School Day Ten

Darren took the camera to work today to show us what he's been up to. From the look of the first photograph they've started filming for some second-rate Australian Drama and for all I know it's called Chopperdocs or Flying Squad and the pilot is having it off with one of the medics. I just hope it's not Darren.

Anyway, they've been winching up into the helicopter today, this is the one they keep at Bankstown and it's the same helicopter he'll be using in Darwin and Orange (Orange is in outback NSW). That's Darren on the left in the bottom photo, pretending to save someone from a crocodile, shortly before he came home and saved me from a cockroach.

After that they taught them some hand signals (because it's noisy with the propellor going around). He showed me the signs over dinner this evening; it's impossible to recreate them here but roughly translated they are "beam me up scotty", "Ouch, mind my balls" and "My wife wants to fly in the chopper over the harbour bridge so sort it out". The latter is the most important one so I'll be making sure he's particularly clear on that one.
