Started the day on the beach. We even had a dip in the harbour waters with the snorkelling gear on, but by midday the city skyline was full of looming purple clouds, rising upwards like billowing plumes of smoke.
By two o'clock the entire city was being pelted with rain, such furious rain that the tops of the buildings had completely disappeared.
Afterwards we went mooching in the shops along King Street in Newtown, where the owners were all busy mopping up the worst of the water. The rooves in Sydney leak; there were saucepans all over the floors.
I mean, what sort of shanty town is this?
