Lazing

I think you'd say we're on the cusp of the Australian summer now; the swimming pool is finally warm enough for a dip, the flowers in the garden blooming into life, not that they ever really seemed to die. Here are a few I spotted aroun the pool. You pay extra to have those bird of paradise flowers in a bouquet at the florist back home. Here they're growing in our garden.

It's a beautiful time to be in Sydney, though still the small things and frustrations of living in a flat in a city make us want to come home; the endless series of keys to open doors, the stairs with the shopping bags, the bin about a mile away.

We both want our house back, ideally, on this side of the world.

Darren took Ella to Coles this morning to do the weekly shopping, where she spent two dollars on the Wiggles ride but failed to spend a penny in the toilet. "I kept asking her if she wanted to go" he explained when they got back. "And she kept saying no". And so it was she peed all over the floor at the checkout instead. That's the last time he goes out shopping without her changing bag, I'd say.

This afternoon I packed a bag for the beach but instead we lazed about the pool. The beach is alright, but such a lot of effort and sand getting everywhere when you could just as easily stay home to take a dip. I think we're gearing ourselves up for the final push because next week we go to Melbourne to see what all the fuss is about.

Oh yeah, and to have our photos taken on Ramsay Street. I don't even watch Neighbours but it's just got to be done.
